Healthcare Integration and Software Engineer

Location: Remote (US)

Nmble Medical is partnering with a progressive midsized healthcare organization to strengthen its technology and data interoperability capabilities. We’re seeking a Integration & Software Engineer — a skilled developer who understands healthcare data, system connectivity, and the vital importance of secure patient information exchange.

This is a hybrid role blending hands-on development with healthcare interoperability. You’ll build, integrate, and optimize the connections between EHRs, clinical applications, and cloud systems — enabling providers to access accurate data, faster and more securely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain interfaces and integrations between EHRs, labs, billing platforms, and third-party applications.

  • Implement and manage FHIR and HL7 data exchange through integration tools like Mirth Connect, Redox, Rhapsody, or similar.

  • Build and enhance internal APIs and automation scripts to streamline workflows and reporting.

  • Collaborate with IT, clinical, and compliance teams to ensure interoperability and data quality across systems.

  • Conduct testing, validation, and troubleshooting for interfaces and data mappings.

  • Maintain documentation and technical specifications for integrations and APIs.

  • Ensure all development and integration work adheres to HIPAA, HITECH, and internal security standards.

  • Contribute to innovation efforts around cloud data architecture and real-time analytics pipelines.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of experience in software development or systems integration, ideally within a healthcare setting.

  • Strong proficiency in Python, C#, or Java, plus experience with REST APIs and database development (SQL, PostgreSQL).

  • Working knowledge of HL7v2, FHIR, CDA, and related interoperability standards.

  • Familiarity with EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks.

  • Experience using integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody) or API platforms.

  • Understanding of PHI security, access controls, and compliance frameworks.

  • Excellent analytical and communication skills — able to bridge clinical needs with technical execution.

Preferred Tech Stack

  • Languages: Python, C#, JavaScript

  • Standards: FHIR, HL7, CDA, DICOM (bonus)

  • Tools: Mirth Connect, Redox, AWS Lambda, GitHub, Postman

  • Databases: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Snowflake

  • Cloud: AWS or Azure (HIPAA-compliant infrastructure)

Why You’ll Love Working With Us

  • Mission-Driven Work: Build systems that improve patient care and data accessibility across healthcare environments.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with both technical and clinical leaders.

  • Professional Growth: Exposure to interoperability standards, data engineering, and secure health IT development.

  • Flexibility: Remote-first culture with the option for hybrid collaboration.

  • Innovation Opportunity: Shape the architecture and integrations that enable next-generation healthcare connectivity.
